Mass Spectrometry

The PCL has a suite of mass spectrometers that include MALDI and ESI ion source instruments.

Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization (MALDI)

Shimadzu/Kratos MALDI-TOF mass spectrometerThe PCL operates a Shimadzu/Kratos Axima CFR MALDI-TOF PSD instrument of moderate resolution and mass accuracy. This instrument is available to students (after specific training) and is accessible using a Google calendar for reservations.

We also have a Bruker Ultraflextreme MALDI-TOF-TOF instrument that is used for proteomics and Imaging. The instrument is a high resolution and mass accuracy instrument that is capable of Top Down as well as Bottom Up protein ID using in house and on-line search engines and public databases. This instrument provides only limited student access.

Please contact the PCL for scheduling training on the Kratos Axima CFR.

Electrospray Ionization

The PCL houses a ThermoScientific Exactive Orbitrap mass spectrometer for High Resolution Accurate Mass of peptides and small ions. This instrument is also available to students (after specific training) and is accessible using a Google calendar for reservations.

Please contact the PCL for scheduling training on the Thermo Exactive orbitrap.
