Chromatography Instrumentation

The Laboratory is equipped with several high-pressure and mid-pressure liquid chromatography systems for protein and peptide purification.  The facility has a GE AKTA pure Protein Purification system that is capable of running aqueous and organic mobile phases for native protein purification as well as peptide isolation.  This instrument is being used to develop pilot protein purification protocols using a library of columns that includes hydrophobic interaction, ion exchange, metal chelation and affinity matrices.  This system is used extensively for protein purification. A new service to perform immunodepletion of samples is done on the AKTA.  It has proven to be a robust addition to the sample preparation stream to Proteomics of physiological fluids including urine and bone extracts.
